The Magnet Test
The easiest way to check if your metal is aluminum or steel is with a simple magnet. Aluminum is non-magnetic. If the magnet sticks, it’s steel (or iron) and will be priced at a lower ferrous scrap rate.
How to get the highest price:
Remove the Iron!
If your aluminum window frames still have steel hinges, locks, or thick steel screws attached, the entire batch will be downgraded to “Dirty Aluminum” or “Irony Aluminum.” Spend a few minutes removing the steel attachments to secure the premium clean rate.

Questions about selling aluminum.
Do I need to remove screws and rubber from window frames?
You don’t have to, but we highly recommend it. If steel screws and rubber seals are left on the aluminum, we must purchase it at a lower “Dirty Aluminum” rate to cover our processing labor. Removing them gets you the top “Clean 6063” rate.
Do you buy aluminum beverage cans (UBCs) from homes?
Because cans are incredibly light, it takes thousands of them to make a pickup financially viable. We primarily buy UBCs in bulk from commercial recycling centers or event organizers. For small household amounts, please use municipal recycling bins.
Do I need to take the tires off alloy rims?
Yes. We are a metal buyer, not a tire disposal service. Alloy rims must have the rubber tires and the lead balancing weights removed before we can purchase them as cast aluminum scrap.
Does paint lower the value of the aluminum?
Heavy powder coating or thick paint can slightly lower the value (as it burns off during smelting, reducing the actual metal yield), but it is still highly valuable. Standard anodized finishes do not affect the price.
